New Mexico Vital Records issues only certified copies of birth certificates, which are typically acceptable for passport, social security, employment, personal identification and other legal purposes.

Who Can Order?
Access to copies of New Mexico birth certificates is restricted to the certificate holder and their immediate family - mother, father (if listed), current spouse, adult sibling, maternal grandparent, paternal grandparent (if father listed on record) and adult child.

Important - Anyone not listed above must submit a written request directly to New Mexico Vital Records, along with proof of entitlement, such as a notarized authorization from the person named on the certificate, custody papers, power of attorney, or attorney letter showing tangible interest.

New Mexico Vital Records issues only certified copies of death certificates that can typically be used to obtain death benefits, to claim insurance proceeds and for other legal purposes.
