North Carolina Vital Records issues certified copies of North Carolina birth certificates, North Carolina death certificates, North Carolina marriage records and North Carolina divorce records for events that occurred within the State of North Carolina. You may order copies of North Carolina vital records through VitalChek on an expedited basis.

Recent Events:   North Carolina Vital Records cannot process requests for recent events. Certificates for recent events will not be available for ordering until 90 days after the event date.

NORTH CAROLINA BIRTH CERTIFICATES
North Carolina Vital Records issues certified copies of North Carolina birth certificates, which are typically acceptable for passport, social security, employment, personal identification purposes and other legal purposes.

Who Can Order?
Certified copies of North Carolina birth certificates are issued to the following:

  • A person requesting a copy of his or her own birth certificate or that of the person's spouse, sibling, mother, father, stepparent, stepchild, direct and ancestor descendant;
  • A person seeking information for a legal determination of personal or property rights; or
  • An authorized agent, attorney, or legal representative of a person described in (1) or (2) above.

If you are not qualified to receive a certified copy, you will receive a non-certified copy (with the exception of birth certificates for adopted persons).

BIRTH UNCERTIFIED
An uncertified birth certificate that can be used for informational purposes only and cannot be used for identification, travel or passport. Uncertified birth certificates are available for events that occurred within the State of North Carolina from October 1, 1913 to present.

Recent Events: North Carolina Vital Records cannot process requests for recent events. Certificates for recent events will not be available for ordering until 90 days after the event date.

First Copy: 39.00   Additional Copies: 15.00


BIRTH
A certified birth certificate that can typically be used for travel, passport, proof of citizenship, social security, driver's license, school registration, personal identification and other legal purposes. Birth Certificates are available for events that occurred within the State of North Carolina from October 1, 1913 to present.

Recent Events: North Carolina Vital Records cannot process requests for recent events. Certificates for recent events will not be available for ordering until 90 days after the event date.
