MICHIGAN VITAL RECORDS
Michigan Department of Community Health, Division of Vital Records (Michigan Vital Records) issues certified copies of Michigan birth certificates, Michigan death certificates, Michigan marriage certificates and Michigan divorce certificates for events that occurred within the State of Michigan. You may order copies of Michigan Vital Records through VitalChek on an expedited basis. Michigan Vital Records charges a $10.00 RUSH fee for each online order, in addition to VitalChek's $8.50 credit card handling charge.

MICHIGAN BIRTH CERTIFICATES
Michigan Vital Records issues certified copies of Michigan birth certificates that are typically acceptable for passport, social security, school registration, employment, personal identification purposes and other legal purposes.

Authenticated, certified copies of Michigan birth certificates are also available for those records needing an 'apostille' applied by the Office of the Great Seal (please allow an additional 3-4 weeks for this process). An authenticated Michigan birth certificate is not needed for foreign travel.

Who Can Order?
Access to Michigan birth records is restricted. You may order copies of Michigan birth certificates for yourself or a child, as long as you are named on the record being ordered. Anyone not listed on the certificate must submit proof of entitlement. Please visit the Michigan Vital Records website for entitlement requirements. Online orders are not accepted for the birth record of a deceased person as additional information is required.

YOUR BIRTH RECORD IF AGE 65+
A certified birth certificate that can typically be used for travel, passport, proof of citizenship, social security, driver's license, school registration, personal identification and other legal purposes. Birth Certificates are available for events that occurred within the State of Michigan from 1867 to present.

Important Note - To be eligible for the reduced fee, you must be age 65 or older and must be ordering a copy of your own birth certificate. If you are not age 65 or older, please choose Your Birth Record Or Your Child's Birth Record from the list of record options above.

BIRTH RECORD - LIVE PERSON APOSTILLE/EXEMPLIFIED
A certified birth certificate that contains an apostille. This authenticated record is printed on special safety paper and contains a raised, embossed seal. It also contains the Great Seal of Michigan, as required by some foreign countries for adoption, marriage, establishment of citizenship, work visa, or court action in a foreign country. An authenticated record (apostille) is not required for foreign travel. When ordering an apostille, you must provide the name of the FOREIGN country where the document will be used. An apostille CANNOT be applied to a document that will be used in the United States. Please allow an additional 2 -3 weeks processing time at the Office of the Great Seal, in addition to the regular processing time.
