The District of Columbia Division of Vital Records (D.C. Vital Records) issues certified copies of D.C. birth certificates and D.C. death certificates for events which occurred within the District of Columbia. You may order copies of D.C. vital records through VitalChek on an expedited basis.

D.C. Vital Records issues only certified copies of D.C. death certificates that can typically be used to obtain death benefits, claim insurance proceeds and other legal purposes.
Who Can Order?
Access to copies of D.C. death certificates is restricted to the decedent's spouse at the time of death, adult child, mother, father or adult sibling. Legal guardians and legal representatives must submit proof of entitlement. Entitlement documentation should be faxed to 202.783.0136, upon completion of your online order.
