The Virginia Department of Health, Division of Vital Records (Virginia Vital Records) issues certified copies of Virginia birth certificates, Virginia death certificates, Virginia marriage records and Virginia divorce records, for events which occurred within the State of Virginia. VIRGINIA BIRTH CERTIFICATES
Virginia Vital Records issues certified copies of Virginia birth certificates, which are typically acceptable for passport, social security, employment, personal identification and other legal purposes.

Who Can Order?
You may order copies of Virginia birth certificates for yourself, your child (as long as you are named on the certificate), your current spouse, a parent, a sibling, or grandchild (if you are the paternal grandparent, the father's name must be listed on the certificate). Your name must also be listed on the credit card or check being used for payment. If you are not one of the persons listed, you must fax proof of entitlement, along with a government issued photo ID, to 800.244.2515.
Note: Virginia birth certificates are public record 100 years after the date of event.

Where Can The Document Be Shipped?
Virginia Vital Records will only ship copies of Virginia birth certificates to the entitled applicant's verified credit card billing address. Please note that express couriers will not ship to a P.O. Box.

A certified birth certificate that has been authenticated by the Secretary of State. This document can typically be used for legal and international purposes and is not needed for travel or to obtain a passport.You will be given an opportunity to select one of the following shipping options prior to completing your online order: UPS Air - $18.50, UPS 2 Day - $17.00, Regular Mail - no charge.

Birth Certificate

Birth Certificates are available for events that occurred within the State of Virginia from June 1, 1912 to present.
